THE REAL GAME OF SURVIVAL
The Girl Who Swears By Panache
Well. Let's talk.
So I am a media student (from the last three years, duh), and as a practical to our subject called "Events and Exhibitions", we had to organize our own event for the college students. Interestingly, this event was named as the "Game of Survival- 2.0".
Now why exactly the 2.0? I will tell you.
Back when we, the Final year students were in our first year in 2017, the then final year batch conducted the "Game of Survival". It basically included the whole goddamn college students who were divided into teams and played games and enjoyed food and won prizes. That year, it was a hit.
And so, our biggest challenge was-
Recreating the aura again. Possibly, better this time.
Being the "Leader" along with another of my classmate, there was a huge responsibility on my shoulders and on our whole class to be fair. We did everything from the scratch to make it a successful event. From thinking about the theme, to selling tickets, decor, food, games and music, which eventually we all did, but the thought that was particularly eating me alive on that day, was WHAT IF?
What if no one shows up?
What if all that we planned and organised interests nobody?
What if no one saw our stories and posters?
And the most dreaded question was, what if no one is willing to come?
No, I wasn't overthinking, if that is what you're wondering. There was an obstacle- and a huge one.
Our event was planned right before our final exams. (I mean, we planned it differently but authorities, right?).
And out of five departments that we have in our college. Three of them were CLOSED for exams and one HAD AN EXAM on that day.
We were...devastated, if I have to be lenient and calm. Our event had to start by 11 am and till 12, we did not see anyone in the college. (revisiting that thought is making me feel giddy).
And now I can tell how it feels when the first person walks up to the registration table. In one word- Fulfilling. You feel like you have achieved something, something huge, and apparent and worthwhile.
1, 2, 4,10, 25...
Slowly, the registrations started, people came, and bought tickets, and played, and had fun, and ate, and won prizes and let me tell you,
IT WAS A SUCCESS!
There is so much, I have understood- that goes into organizing an event. The reason I am writing this today is because now all of that dread, the success, that anxiety, that happiness is what I have experienced first- hand.
We had a great time hosting our friends and planning all the games, food and prizes for them. We got awesome feedback on how much they enjoyed the "Game of Survival" (2.0).
But what exactly was the real game of survival that day?
And who actually survived it?
Well, now you know! 😉
Have you ever experienced that mid-life crises that makes you wonder how our lives are empty and meaningless? Probably yes.
But how many of you actually have experienced a panic attack because you thought that your event (Yes, YOUR event) probably would come out as a failure?
Well. Let's talk.
