Another soon-to-be memory: YEAR 2018
The Girl Who Swears By Panache

As December 2018 arrived, with chill mornings, drop in the temperature and with all those warm fuzzy and furry winter sweaters, I snuggled in my blanket with a cup of Oh-so-wonderful chai (Tea) and opened my social media in an attempt of finding some good literature pieces to read. Seems strange, but social media now has some brilliant writing pages for literature lovers and people are now shifting towards them at pace.
What I saw soon after, was a post from someone random (someone random I know) saying, ( And I am NOT quoting) "2018 and me, both are a disgrace to the society". And that person was partially true, certainly a disgrace to the society that person is. #sorrynotsorry
I scrolled and scrolled, and found n number of posts defaming and shaming, cussing and cursing the year 2018. One question that I want to ask all the people who think 2018 was bad:
Was it the year, or was it YOU?
Every year, it is you who gets abused at a workplace and keeps quiet.
It's you who goes to school and comes back without curbing your confusion about that one question because you're afraid that people will call you dumb.
It's you who skip the college fest auditions every time because you assume that you're up to nothing.
It's you who doesn't study, because life is too short to keep it organised, right? (Yes, heavy sarcasm)
It is not just 2018, it is each and every year that is bad because you choose it that way. As everybody says that life is a journey where we learn, isn't the life made up of years?
And so each year, we learn. We learn to be strong and we learn to be vulnerable at times. We learn that life is not just a piece of cake and it is not a bed of thorns either. We learn that to achieve something, we have to thrive and hustle and we learn to distance ourselves from people and things who stop us from doing so.We learn to love, and we also learn that sometimes disliking is alright.
So let us just alter our sentences. 2018 was not "Good" or "Bad", rather some of us worked, got out of our comfort zones to prove not to the society but to our own selves that we can get what we want, while some of us yet again doubted and did not try.
I have worked hard this year and got rewarded for it too. I have made and have lost friends. I was happy and content and also sad and depressed on days, but it was nothing to do with the year- it was all how I conducted myself.
Every year is the same and yet special. Each year brings us a set of twelve months filled with opportunities and possibilities, and even if not always- on most days, it is our choice that matters.
